Seeing Yourself in Cybersecurity
When I first started my journey, it took me a while to realize what I wanted. I saw few women in the industry, let alone women that looked like me. Although we still have some way to go, I am happy to know that there is some representation of women out there. Not only women but also an opportunity to open the eyes of children. To be aligned with the theme, each book provides the chance to see yourself in cyber.
I have reviewed a few books that I would love to share with you. The first one I will discuss is Securing Our Future by Embracing the Resilience and Brilliance of Black Women in Cyber. I could go on and on about how much I could relate to multiple stories within this book. There are times when you would feel the emotions of the roller coasters women, in general, go through to get to where they are today. There is also a sense of guidance in most chapters where you realize that you aren't alone in this and that there are people in your life who will support you and lift you when the world feels like it's crumbling. I don't want to give too much away, but I highly recommend reading this book, no matter where you are in your career.
Stronger Together Women in Cybersecurity also has 100 stories of individuals within the cybersecurity space. You will learn more about who they are and how they got there. Seeing how many people are in the industry and putting themselves out there to show inclusivity is amazing.
I'd also like to introduce See Yourself in Cybersecurity and The Little Cyber Engineer to the next generation. Both books provide insight into the industry. At a very young age, my nephew asked me, "Titi, Are you a hacker?” I wish these were available at the time. To explain in plain terms, there is more to cyber security than just hacking.
I hope you give any of these books a moment of your time. I am looking forward to sharing more books with you.
